Educational Development Committee - Operation Guidelines
The Educational Development Committee works with the district Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment to ensure that all students are provided access to a rigorous curriculum, exemplary instructional practices and a balanced assessment system, through a review of printed curriculum maps for courses taught, textbooks adopted and other resources associated with the instructional program, assessment results of content being delivered, new program proposals, and professional development offered by the district to enhance the delivery of instruction of the approved curriculum.
Committee Structure
The Educational Development Committee is a sub-committee of the Board of School Directors. It is a four-person committee, one of whome serves as the Chairperson who is responsible for working with the assigned cabinet consultant on agenda materials and meeting logistics, including public notices.
The committee typically meets every other month beginning in October (October, December, February, April, and June).
Outline of Functions and Operations
Review and recommend to the full Board curriculum revisions, updates and new courses of study, textbooks, supporting technology and/or programs and initiatives.
- Review and discuss annual statewide assessment results, program reviews and/or evaluations of programs for release to the full Board and the general public.
- Review and recommend to the full Board specialized professional development opportunities for faculty and administration.
- Convene meetings to allow for committee members to be aware of new resources planned and/or utilized in the delivery of the instructional programs, including instructional technology and make recommendations to the full Board.
